ON INTERCESSION

10/9/2014

A revelation came to me regarding intercession; or in other words "praying on behalf of others"

Intercession is like working a job in which you do not have to take any work home with you in the evening. After praying for other folks, I simply walk away and leave the rest up to God. He then begins His work on their behalf and I do not have to think about it until its time to pray again.

How simple is that???

Authentic Christianity

The Christian life is authenticated when the indwelling Holy Spirit applies the teachings of Christ to particular circumstances and situations in which God places us. In other words...

This is "doctrine" in work clothes... shorts and sandals, jeans and sneakers

...it's when spiritual truth becomes earthly  reality in everything we do...

...it's when (as James says) "we become doers of the word and not just hearers only".

We Are The CMA (Christian and Missionary Alliance) -- Columbia Christian Fellowship is a Christian and Missionary Alliance Church -- The CMA is our parent denomination. Please see updates below.

Tensions between Russia and Ukraine; masses fleeing Syria; broken cease fires between Hamas and Israel; ISIS marching across Iraq; Ebola marching across West Africa...

You've seen the headlines, what you may not know is that The CMA is in each of these areas. Yes, years ago the sovereign hand of God placed us in the very locations that now are receiving world attention.

Ferguson, Missouri
  • CMA pastors and other church clergy have taken to the unsettled streets to minister the hope of Christ to the crowds
  • over one hundred clergy members go out every night to help keep the peace (not reported  by the mainstream media unfortunately)
  • a new ministry called "clergy united" has been birthed from the above mentioned outreach
  • CMA members give out water and/or help in other ways to resolve and be a blessing in the situation
  • PTL -- almost daily people are receiving Christ  as Savior in the midst of the turmoil and uncertainty in their lives

The Middle East
  • CMA global personnel act as agents of hope and peace in several Middle East countries where some of the most vocal political conflicts and unrest currently are taking place.
  • through community outreaches and relationship building they show the love of Jesus to increasingly disillusioned people groups
  • as in the Russia/Ukraine conflict, many folks are being displaced in the Middle East. The refugee problem is epidemic, esp. in Syria and Northern Iraq. CMA pastors and churches are remaining steadfast in their faith and ministry amid the violence and turmoil
  • our churches continually minister to the spiritual and physical needs of the people, Christians and non-Christians alike

Recap for Reflection

The Beatitudes -- more well known than understood

"Blessed":
  • to be deeply and fully satisfied
  • a complete sense of well being -- not at all dependent on external circumstances; a sense that everything is alright even when it isn't

The Beatitudes are to be a "now" experience -- do not have to wait til heaven

The Beatitudes are not optional --  it is for all  believers; each believer is to be like this

The Beatitudes are not options --  all believers are to manifest all the beatitudes; not seven different individuals manifesting one beatitude each, but one individual manifesting each of the seven beatitudes

The Beatitudes are teachings for believers -- the natural man/woman apart from Christ cannot produce the beatitudes in themselves, the beatitudes are produced by the indwelling Christ in a man/woman.

We are not "trained" into this; we are "saved" into this. After we are saved the Holy Spirit begins producing this Christ-like character in the new believer; which leads to radical Christianity and kingdom living.

To Think About
What do I now know that I did not know before I came to church Sunday?

What am I intentionally planning to do with what I now know that I did not know before I came to church Sunday?

Share your "aha" moment?

Remember:
Your "balance beam" commitment...you stepped out --  from complacency and mediocrity, into radical Christianity and Kingdom Living

Surfin Sunday's Sermon

8/18/2014

Matt. 2819-20
"go and make disciples...teaching them everything I have taught you" -- Jesus implies that a primary way to make disciples is to teach them the things He taught. The sermon on the mount is a vast compilation of the teachings of Jesus; therefore very useful in making disciples.

For Reflection:
  • Has your understanding of the sermon on the mount been challenged or expanded through yesterday's overview? If so how?

  • What is the most notable thought or statement that struck you in the message or service Sunday?

  • Were there any "aha" moments for you?

I am hoping your interest is piqued and you are curious for more as we move into the heart of the sermon on the mount.

Be Blessed

Mull it Over

Matt. 28:19

"...go and make disciples..."

a disciple is a learner, one who is being taught, trained in a particular body of  knowledge -- in the  Biblical context, it is the knowledge of the Word of God, of truth, and more specifically, the teachings of Jesus.
  • the way we think and the way we act is being shaped by the knowledge we are gaining
  • in essence the disciple begins to be changed by what is being learned

Question: What am I intentionally doing to be a better disciple?

Question: What am I intentionally doing to" make disciples" of others?
