Surfin Sunday's Sermon

8/18/2014

Matt. 2819-20
"go and make disciples...teaching them everything I have taught you" -- Jesus implies that a primary way to make disciples is to teach them the things He taught. The sermon on the mount is a vast compilation of the teachings of Jesus; therefore very useful in making disciples.

For Reflection:
  • Has your understanding of the sermon on the mount been challenged or expanded through yesterday's overview? If so how?

  • What is the most notable thought or statement that struck you in the message or service Sunday?

  • Were there any "aha" moments for you?

I am hoping your interest is piqued and you are curious for more as we move into the heart of the sermon on the mount.

Be Blessed

I was struck by the fact that the OT and NT list of "laws" is not set-up for me to try to achieve on my own, but to point me to God and accept Christ's sacrifice to begin doing the transforming work within me.

Totally agree Rachel, such bondage it is struggling to find salvation in obeying rules and regulations instead of seeing the law as a lighthouse pointing us toward Jesus and the pure love of a heavenly father who only wants the best out of us

I like the lighthouse analogy you used!

I am always struck by how incredibly relevant this particular portion of the bible is to our current society and culture. I think that this set of teachings will give great opportunity to build relationships in that it's very real, practical, and cut and dry. I'm excited about it because I know that it's what I need: a deeper understanding of the standards that Jesus Christ set before us to live by... What a remarkable contrast to the way the world looks!
