Psalm 92

4 For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord;
I sing for joy at what your hands have done.

Yes, we should be praising God for all He has done. Is doing. And what He will do for us. I think we lose sight of God in our lives in everyday living. We get busy and forget our purpose. Forget who is really in charge. Why is that? Because we let the enemy slide in and steer us off course.

So what do we do? Lately I have been listening and reading Scripture and evangelists. The common theme right now is prayer. And as always, God know what we need and when we need it. Simple prayers help us through simple things. Bold prayer helps us continue to defeat the enemy. So open your bible, read and pray. For God the Father will protect.

Psalm 94

8 Take notice, you senseless ones among the people;
you fools, when will you become wise?

11 The Lord knows all human plans;
he knows that they are futile.

Verse 8 is letting me know that we need to stay humble in God's eyes. To act the fool, is to be arrogant in heart.

Verse 11 reminds me of my earthly being. I cannot accomplish anything on my own. If it it God's plan, then I will be successful. If I think on my own, I will fail.

Psalm 95

6 Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
7 for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
the flock under his care.

Clearly this Psalm tells us that we are the flock under His care. So why do we not let Him take care of us? Many times we try to make decisions on our own. And we fail. Because it is not His plan. We work hard to NOT follow the word of God. When all we need to do is pray and Glorify God the Father. Then everything will fall into place. Our purpose in life, and our goal, is whatever God wants us to do. Focus on God, and life will happen. Focus on life, and you will become lost.

1 Samuel 1

God is amazing. Even though Hannah was barren, she pleaded with God to have a son. And she would present this son to Him forever.

Did she know how Samuel would turn out? She promised to give Samuel to God. And her prayers were answered.

How different is Hannah than we are today? The answer is she is no different. So what is stopping you from asking God, through prayer, for what you need?

1 Samuel 2

6 “The Lord brings death and makes alive;
he brings down to the grave and raises up.
7 The Lord sends poverty and wealth;
he humbles and he exalts.
8 He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the ash heap;
he seats them with princes
and has them inherit a throne of honor.

Verse 6 tells us of what is to come. Written before Jesus walked the earth. A prophetic insight of the coming of life after death.

Verse 7 reminds me that material wealth has no meaning. Humble thyself in front of the Lord, for He shall bring us prosperity.

Verse 8 show us that every person has the chance to walk with God. He has mercy on all of His children. For we will inherit the throne. This means we will be seated at the right hand of God. To live forever in peace.

1 Samuel 3

8 Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. 9 So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’

So how many time has God called us, and we have not answered? Too many to count. Be vigilant, do not get distracted by the enemy. The devil does not want us to hear from God. We need to learn when God is speaking to us. Seek Him. Pray that you will be attentive and listen. Seek a relationship with God the Father and the enemy has no defense against it. And no control over us.

1 Samuel 4

What I have learned from this chapter, although I may be wrong, is that the Israelites did not reach out to God for protection and help. They just thought the presence of the ark of the Covenant was enough.

The Israelites did not pray. They did not glorify God. They did not ask for protection. It is not enough to hope. Or have sacred items in your possession. Seek God. Pray. And He will protect and strengthen.

1 Samuel 5

Talk about the consequences for worshiping a false god. Two cities were strewn with disease and tumors. And the third one begged that the ark not enter the city. Everything these three cities stood for was against God the Father. And all three were punished.

And we make everyday life so difficult. Give it to God. Live the word. Not always easy, but better with God than without.

1 Samuel 6

4 The Philistines asked, “What guilt offering should we send to him?”

They replied, “Five gold tumors and five gold rats, according to the number of the Philistine rulers, because the same plague has struck both you and your rulers.

So why were the people of Philistine told to offer gold tumors and gold rats as the guilt offering? If we offer up what is tearing us apart or killing us, God will see that we know what the issues are. Say we were stealing. If we offered our hands as a guilt offering, God would know we are serious about repenting. If we have a lustful eye. We should offer our eyes as repentance. God would know we genuinely are sorry for our sins. This is why the Philistines were told to off gold tumors and rats. When we are asking for forgiveness of sin, we need to look deep into our hearts. Find out what really is the problem. God already knows. But if/when we find it, God will know we are serious about Him. Seek Him.

1 Samuel 7

13 So the Philistines were subdued and they stopped invading Israel’s territory. Throughout Samuel’s lifetime, the hand of the Lord was against the Philistines.

Can you imagine having this much responsibility? Leading the Israelites for as long as Samuel did? I know there are many other leaders God picked to lead the Israelites, and the same question stands. So much pressure. But is it really? With God the Father in charge, and telling these men what to do and say, kind of makes it easy. But yet not always easy. These men had to face God to intervene for these people. I am sure it was a daunting task. But where else would they, you, want to be? With God, or without God. Your choice.

22 The Lord answered, “Listen to them and give them a king.”

1 SAMUEL 15:23
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.

I'm still trying to figure out how rebellion and witchcraft are related in the Word. My latest theory is that when a person uses witchcraft, they're attempting to bring about their own will. Similarly, when we rebel against God, we're attempting to bring about our own will. This calls for a careful evaluation of our own actions because wherever we're rebelling against God's will in our lives, there is where we're attempting to use witchcraft.

It's so important that we make every effort to obey the Word of God! All glory to Jesus Christ who forgives ALL of our sins!

1 Samuel 15
“Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
as much as in obeying the Lord?
To obey is better than sacrifice,
and to heed is better than the fat of rams.

Saul, king of Israel, did not obey God. Saul plundered the Amalekites after killing all the people. God regretted making Saul king.

What have we learned from this chapter? Obey God the Father. Our plans will always fail. Follow God's instructions. Saul let the enemy into his thoughts. Saul thought for himself, not God. We end up regretting our decisions. This is why we need to seek God and follow His commands. God will always lead us down the path of righteousness. The enemy will always lead us down the rabbit hole.

How many times to we judge people by their appearance. Too many times. We need to learn from God, how to look deeper within a person, and ourselves. We need accept people as they are. 23 So Saul went to Naioth at Ramah. But the Spirit of God came even on him, and he walked along prophesying until he came to Naioth.

Earlier in this chapter we read that Saul wanted to kill David. We also read that Saul agreed not to kill David, then evil spirits inside Saul, made him try to kill David. Not we see that in the presence of Samuel, even Saul prophesied.

God is in control, if we let Him. Without the word of God, we can do nothing. Learn from this chapter that being in God's presence, with Godly men, will help guide to the right decisions.

We, I, need to spend time with the Lord. Spend more time seeking His face. What is more valuable, more important, than spending time with God the Father? We let life get in the way. We think other pieces of life are more important. Jesus understands that we have obligations here, but when we put Him first, everything else falls into place. We miss this. As I read and listened to this Psalm, I feel like every verse is very significant. All of God's people, the believers, were protected and given all they need. The enemy, Egypt, was swarmed with plagues. As we struggle with life, we need to look back at what Abrahams descendants went through. Be thankful for what we have. No more, no less, than what we need. We tend to make life difficult. Think about things that might happen, rather than know and understand what is the now. Reach up your hand to God, for He will take your hand and guide you. We just need the faith to believe He will protect us. Enjoy now. Be thankful for what we have. How great is our God? How many times do we turn away from Him, yet He still loves us. Sometimes God allows us to hit the lowest of lows before we realize what God is doing within us. So we need to have the greatest of faith to live for Him. His unfailing love is so strong. We do not understand this love. That is why we turn to the word. The Bible. The instruction book of life. Each one of us may interpret a verse or a chapter differently. But that is why God is so amazing. We read the same words, but God allows us to see the words differently. Yet it means the same. 15 “Friends, why are you doing this? We too are only human, like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heavens and the earth and the sea and everything in them.

Jesus gave all of us the power to do what Paul did with this man who had never walked. Then the people wanted to offer sacrifices to Paul and Barnabus. Make sure when you spread the word of God, it is understood that by the Holy name of Jesus is how these miracles happen. Not by us. 25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.

31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house.

This is one of the reasons we sing and worship. God listens and is pleased. When Paul and Silas were singing and worshiping, all surrounding them heard and felt the presence of God. The guard didn't know what to do or say. Paul and Silas opened their hearts to him. And his whole family believed.

We never know when Jesus will show a sign. Be ready. And KNOW it is Him. Have faith. Spread the word of God.

Pray. Read. Praise God!!

II Samuel 8

“The Lord gave David victory wherever he went.”

It was not by David’s own strength, skill, or perseverance that he was able to overcome those he faced, but rather because the Lord gave him all he needed to be victorious. David dedicated the treasures he received through these victories to the Lord, recognizing that they belonged to Him because He had provided David with everything he needed to overcome. David gained nothing by his own power.

In our own lives, we must rely on the strength of the Lord. It is His strength, His perseverance, His skill, His knowledge, and His revelation that equip us to be victorious in our own battles. We would fail time and time again if we relied on ourselves or any other human being.

Let us remember who deserves the glory, and when we do overcome, let us remain humble and thankful to the Lord. Anything we gain as a result of our victories, let us recognize that it does not belong to us, but to the One who gave us the victory in the first place. In all that we do, let it bring glory to the Lord.

2 Samuel 8

I believe those who are agnostic or atheists, would read this and other chapters thinking that God is just a murderer and killing machine. But what they miss is the reason. Since God has allowed free will, some people or tribes have chosen to be evil and greedy.

David listened to God. He would not do anything without the direction from God. All the while David stayed humble and recognized God the Father for all of the victories.

We are now in a different covenant with Jesus. But each covenant had/has it's reasons. Live for today. With Jesus. Just like David did for God the Father.

Pray. Read. Praise God!!

Many people pass judgement on the actions of God without understanding the context. Even with the context considered, it’s not our place to judge the actions of our God - He’s the creator of all, and everything belongs to him. God is love, and everything he does is good. We have to remember this, even when His actions seem harsh by our understanding (which scripture tells us not to rely on our own understanding, anyway.)

Like David, we should consult the Lord in prayer in all we do, before any decision, big or small. We should desire to move within His will and in obedience with His word.

Great points, Dan. Thanks for sharing! Be blessed.

2 Samuel 9

My first thought after reading this chapter was that David freely gave back to Jonathan’s son because he recognized that nothing he had been given truly belonged to him, it belonged to the Lord.

I looked into a little of the context behind this chapter and found many parallels between David’s kindness toward Mephibosheth and God’s kindness to us. David chose to show kindness to Mephibosheth for the sake of his father, Jonathan. He showed him kindness and compassion not because Mephibosheth had done anything to earn it, but because of his loyalty and love for Jonathan. Similarly, we are shown kindness and compassion by our Heavenly Father not because of anything we have done to earn it, but because He loves us. David showed Mephibosheth grace and cared for him, just as we are shown grace and cared for by the Lord.

I also can’t overlook the significance of Mephibosheth being lame in both feet. He was likely overlooked in many ways. What a blessing it must have been for him to learn that he would be provided for. Everything that once belonged to his family was returned to him. The fields would be worked, and the harvest would be brought in so that he would be cared for, since he likely could not do much on his own. Not only would his physical needs be met, but by having a seat at the king’s table, his emotional needs of inclusion and community would also be met. Our Father does the same for us, and when our faith is in Christ, we have a seat at His table.

Imagine being summoned by your grandfather’s enemy. Imagine the fear - would you be beaten, taken prisoner, or even killed on the spot? Then imagine the surprise, relief, and gratitude you would feel when you realized you were not met with wrath, but with love.

I pray this serves as a reminder for four things:
1) Don’t hold grudges and show love and kindness to everyone, including your enemies.
2) As the church, we are called to care for one another and provide for those who cannot provide for themselves.
3) No matter what rejection or isolation we experience in this life, we have a seat at the Lord’s table. He sees us, loves us, and provides for us. We belong to a family of believers and if the Holy Spirit is in us, we’re never alone and will always have a place to belong.
4) All that we have belongs not to us, but to the Lord. And as the Lord gives to us freely, let us also give freely.

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭10‬

A few thoughts after reading this chapter...

David showed Hanun love and kindness, but Hanun interpreted David’s actions as having evil intent. We shouldn’t be surprised when those who aren’t walking with the Lord interpret our well-intended actions negatively or assume evil intent.

After Hanun humiliated David’s envoys, David instructed them to stay at Jericho until their beards had grown back. David was not concerned with revenge, but rather with ensuring that his men were sheltered until they were fit to return, protecting their dignity and honor.

When Joab led the forces, he motivated and encouraged them by reminding them to be courageous for their people and for the cities of God. He also asked the Lord to do what seemed good to Him. This demonstrates surrender to the Lord’s will regardless of the outcome. God can only be good, so in our own lives, we can rest assured that when we ask for the Lord’s will to be done, or ask Him to do what seems good to Him, He will answer that prayer. No matter the end result, we can have full confidence that if something seems good in the Lord’s eyes, it is good.

2 Samuel 11

We need to be very careful when it comes to sin. In this chapter, sin starts out in a small, seemingly harmless way, but by the end of the chapter it has progressed to lust, adultery, lies, murder, and unrepentance.

Despite having not just one but many wives, David looked lustfully upon Bathsheba. This might have seemed like something small to him. What harm could looking lead to? That quickly turned into David and Bathsheba committing adultery, even though she had a husband. When Bathsheba learned that she was pregnant and shared the news with David, he attempted to cover up his sin rather than repent of it. He sent her husband into battle, purposely positioning him where he would be killed. David orchestrated his murder. Then came more lies as he attempted to cover up his actions. We know the Lord hates sin, but I find it interesting that only at the end of the chapter, after repeated failed opportunities to repent, does it say that God was displeased.

Sin is dangerous, and “small,” seemingly innocent sins that appear harmless can lead to other rampant and unchecked sins in our lives. Scripture says that if one hand causes us to sin, we should cut it off. If something is causing us to sin, we should deal with it at the root. All sin has consequences, and all sin impacts our relationship with God. Praise God for His faithfulness - if we sin and repent, we are forgiven. Let’s not take this for granted.
